Mykonos airport started its operation in June 1971. It has a1.900 meterrunway on a405 ftaltitude above the sea level.The airport of Mykonos is stretching within the “Hora”,4 kilometers(2,5 miles) southeast of the city of Mykonos. The transportation time from the “Hora” to Mykonos airport, is a ten – minute ride by car. While the city and its port are climbed on the west coast of the island, the airport lies in the hinterland of Mykonos.

The airport enjoys the convenience of numerous international airways during the summer, as well as the local ones, Aegean and Olympic during the winter. A duty – free shop inside the terminal offers to the visitor a variety of perfumes, alcoholic drinks, cosmetics, travel accessories and a variety of gifts. Although there are no restaurants at the airport, the terminal cafeteria serves a variety of snacks and delicious light meals. The terminal station for passengers atMykonosairport provides many more facilities, as it comprises baby – locker rooms, an information desk, free parking spaces for both short as well as long distance flights, and a Commercial Bank of Greece ATM.

The international airway companies providing their services in the summer month are: Air Berlin, Atlas Jet (from Atatourk Instabul), Austrian Airlines, Blue – Express (from fioumitsino airport in Rome), Easy Jet (from  Louton in London and the airport of Paris), Transavia (from the airport of Amsterdam), Edelweiss Air (from Zurich), German Wings, Blu-express, Eurofly, Sky Express, Milan Malpensa, Thomson Airways (from Gatwick in London), Thomas Cook Airlines (from Brussels in Belgium) and many more.

A public bus service runs regular trips between the airport and the centre of Mykonos city. There is an alternative service option through the hired taxes on the island.
